Senior Technical Manager

We are looking for a Senior Technical Manager to join our Technical Organisation team in our Headquarters in Nordhavn, Copenhagen. You will be Project Manager for technical and operational priority projects in Svitzer as well as supporting our frontline operations with critical technical and operational issues.

Reporting to the Chief Technical Officer (CTO), this position offers the opportunity to combine maritime expertise with business and project management acumen in a dynamic and international environment. The Global Technical Organisation is a part of our Global Operations.

Key responsibilities

As a Senior Technical Manager you will have two primary roles:

  1. You will be Project Manager for some of our strategic and critical priorities in Global Operations as well as some of the Svitzer Global Priorities. This is a high impact role with direct influence on key performance and deliverables affecting our business, our people and our customers.
  2. You will also provide fleet technical and operational support to our frontline on critical issues and challenges, helping our Regional and Local teams be the best they can be. This role will also include being a focal point with select key vendors and industry stakeholders and staying informed about relevant technical developments in our industry. You must be comfortable working with procedures and management systems and be prepared to take initiatives to help us continuously improve the way we work. In this role you will run a close partnership with our Group Technical Manager, supporting each other to the benefit of our frontline businesses.

As part of the Technical Organisation, you will work closely with almost all functions in Svitzer, both at group level and globally. You must be prepared to be involved in decarbonisation challenges, innovation projects, procurement initiatives, docking processes and more – we are a versatile team where everyone works together on what is best for the company.

Who we are looking for

The ideal candidate holds a relevant technical educational background combined with practical experience in the maritime industry. Maybe you are a Marine Engineer or a Dual Officer who went onshore some years back and have worked in Technical/Operational organisations with a shipowner. Maybe you have a degree in Engineering and have hands on practical experience from docking vessels, new buildings or vessel modifications.

Furthermore, you have proven project management experience. This could be leading complex projects involving assets (new buildings, major upgrades, major dockings etc) but also leading strategic or tactical projects involving cross functional collaboration, complex stakeholders, critical communication and change management skills.

You are a natural team player focused on delivering outcomes to meet team objectives. You are self-driven, curious and with a strong growth mindset. You possess great collaboration skills and a positive attitude, and you are an honest and reliable colleague with integrity. You are persistent by nature and have a thorough approach to problem solving.

Although the role does not have functional leadership, it requires significant leadership skills and mindset. You have to be comfortable with applying indirect leadership across long distance and multiple cultures – and often achieve results through others.
