Computational Limnology PhD Researcher

Århus, Århus Kommune, Denmark European Geosciences Union Full time

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher to join our team at Aarhus University as a PhD student in computational limnology and freshwater ecology. The position is part of the Ecoscience programme and will be based at the Department of Ecoscience.

The successful candidate will work on developing and applying machine learning algorithms to high-frequency monitoring data from Lake Ravn, Denmark, to improve our understanding of non-linear aquatic ecosystem processes. This project aims to pave the way for a new generation of cutting-edge technologies for ecological research and improve our conceptual understanding of two critical ecosystem processes: turbulent transport on the physical side, and algae dynamics on the ecological side.

As a PhD student, you will conduct field work, apply methods for data-driven discovery, and collaborate with colleagues at the Department of Ecoscience as well as international scientific institutions. You will also gain skills and knowledge in limnological field monitoring, data science, environmental fluid dynamics, phytoplankton ecology, and deep learning.

To be eligible for this position, you must have a relevant Master's degree or receive it before the start date. Experience in scientific programming, basic understanding of freshwater ecology and physical limnology, and interest in conducting field work, numerical modeling, and applying machine learning and deep learning methods to environmental data are highly desirable.
