Environmental Monitoring Engineer for Sustainable Agriculture

Aarhus University seeks an Environmental Monitoring Engineer to support our research on sustainable agriculture. As a member of our technical team, you will assist early career scientists with laboratory and field experiments, design innovative measurement systems, and purchase equipment.

About the Role

This is a full-time position (37 hours/week) for 3 years, available from November 2024 or soon after. You will work closely with international researchers at our Center for Landscape Research in Sustainable Agricultural Futures, using digital technologies like biogeochemical modeling and remote sensing.

Your Responsibilities
  • Support laboratory and field experiments led by early career scientists
  • Design and build custom-made measurement systems for quantifying soil greenhouse gas emissions
  • Purchase lab and field equipment, including environmental sensors and laser spectroscopes
  • Maintain and coordinate the use of this equipment
Requirements and Qualifications

We are looking for an engineer with expertise in mechatronics, mechanical/electrical design, or a related field, or a laboratory technologist with experience in integrating electronic and mechanical systems. You should have:

  • Experience with connecting mechanical equipment to digital systems
  • Familiarity with various sensor technologies and how to develop environmental sensor networks
  • Good English and Danish language skills (English is the primary language of research, while Danish is necessary for interacting with local stakeholders)
  • A driver's license is desirable, as you may need to visit experimental sites
