Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark Lundbeck AS, H Full time

Lundbeck A/S, H is seeking a highly motivated Biotechnology Research Scientist to join our team in Copenhagen. As a Biotechnology Research Scientist, you will contribute to the development of early drug discovery projects by providing hands-on technical support and critical biomarker data in vivo pharmacology and pharmacodynamics studies.

You will perform quantitative bioanalysis using fit-for-purpose assays for quantification and qualification of new biomarkers in preclinical and clinical samples in collaboration with technicians, other colleagues across Lundbeck R&D, and CROs.

The Department of Preclinical Fluid Biomarkers and Occupancy is based at Lundbeck's R&D headquarters in Valby, Copenhagen. The department comprises a team of 12 members, including scientists, laboratory technicians, and students.

Our department supports research projects by generating strong in vivo pharmacology data packages for new drug candidates in Lundbeck's R&D pipeline. We do this by testing the pharmacological effect of compounds in mechanistic animal models and by measuring related fluid biomarker changes. Bioanalyses are run on multiple immunoassay platforms, such as Ella, GyroLab, MSD, commercial ELISAs, Olink, and Simoa.

The position is based in Valby, Denmark.

Key Responsibilities
  • This is a temporary (18 months) position in our in vivo team, where you will be expected to contribute to the development of translational strategies for target engagement, mechanism of action, and pharmacodynamic biomarker exploration.
  • You will adopt and develop new fluid biomarker workflows such as measuring microRNAs in blood or microvesicles (MVs) and exosomes.
  • You will actively seek external inspiration for optimisation of our methodologies and stay up to date with scientific advancements that could ultimately help us succeed.
  • You will direct studies through external partners such as CROs and approved vendors.
  • You will engage in multidisciplinary project teams and contribute to cross-functional biomarker teams whilst working collaboratively with colleagues across Lundbeck R&D.
About You
  • A PhD degree in Biomarker assay development, Life Sciences, Neuroscience, or a related discipline relevant to pharma/biotech research and development, with 1-3 years post-PhD experience.
  • Experience and good understanding of translational research in both preclinical research and early clinical development settings.
  • Experience with translational biomarker development (pharmacodynamic, predictive and fit-for-purpose qualification) including experience with bioanalytical assays, developing assays, and qualifying assays, automation, and process optimization.
  • Experience of fluid biomarker assay platforms (e.g., Ella, MSD, commercial ELISAs, GyroLab, Olink, and Simoa) is highly desirable.
  • Experience with biomarker innovation; specifically with Flow Cytometry based analysis (i.e., whole blood/PBMC, FACS, microRNAs and/or microvesicles (MVs) and exosomes), or neuroinflammation related immunoassays is highly desirable.
  • Solid statistical analysis skills.
  • Experience working within cross-functional project teams, and a track record of effective collaboration with internal or external teams at CROs and academic laboratories.
