Job Title: Postdoctoral Researcher in Memory Studies and Italian Studies

We are seeking a highly qualified postdoctoral researcher to join our team at the Department of Culture and Language at Syddansk Universitet (SDU). The successful candidate will be part of a research project investigating the revival of traumatic pasts in contemporary German and Italian fiction and memory activism.

Job Description:

The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for a work package that explores the reordering of the urban imaginary in Italian cities by key activists and political actors. This will involve drawing on fieldwork observations and interviews to investigate the interplay and conflict of memory discourses between diverse agents.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in memory studies, Italian studies, and cultural studies, with excellent research skills and the ability to work independently. They will also have very good or near-native skills in Italian language and a PhD in a relevant field.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research on the reordering of the urban imaginary in Italian cities
  • Draw on fieldwork observations and interviews to investigate memory discourses
  • Collaborate with the research team to develop and implement the research project
  • Contribute to the writing of research papers and reports
Requirements:
  • PhD in memory studies, Italian studies, or cultural studies
  • Excellent research skills and ability to work independently
  • Very good or near-native skills in Italian language
  • Strong background in cultural studies and memory activism
What We Offer:

The postdoctoral researcher will be employed for a fixed-term period of 2 years, starting on 1st March 2025 or after agreement. The position offers a competitive salary and benefits package, as well as the opportunity to work with a dynamic and interdisciplinary research team.
