Job Summary

The Executive Secretary is responsible for the administration, supervision, and management of the Arctic Council Indigenous Peoples' Secretariat. This is a two-year contract position dependent on funding availability.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage the day-to-day activities of the Secretariat.
  2. Facilitate meetings and dialogue among Indigenous Peoples.
  3. Assist Indigenous Peoples in contributing to Arctic Council processes.
  4. Evaluate and facilitate the distribution of Arctic Council documentation.
  5. Support ongoing work on traditional knowledge.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a university degree in a relevant field, such as social or natural sciences, international or environmental law, and politics. They will also have extensive experience in international cooperation and negotiations, as well as proven management and administrative skills.

Excellent communication skills in English, the working language of the Secretariat, are essential. Knowledge of an Arctic Indigenous language and/or Russian is considered an asset.

Working Conditions

The Executive Secretary will work in a fast-paced environment, requiring strong organizational and time management skills. Travel is extensive, primarily within the Arctic region.
