Kongens Lyngby, Lyngby-Tårbæk Kommune, Denmark Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU) Full time
Our Mission:
DTU Aqua provides research, advice, innovation, and education at the highest international level within the sustainable exploitation of living marine and freshwater resources, the biology of aquatic organisms, and the dynamics of ecosystems as well as integration of results in ecosystem-based management. Our mission is to contribute to the sustainable use and management of the world's oceans and water resources.

About the Job:
We are seeking a highly qualified researcher to join our team as a Professor of Aquatic Ecosystems. The successful candidate will have a strong background in marine ecology, statistics, or machine learning, and a proven track record of research leadership, including visionary strategic development, building up an interdisciplinary research group, and attracting external research funding. The professor is expected to lead research on community-level marine biodiversity, from plankton to mammals, with a central focus on fish. A key focus is how biodiversity varies in space and time, and how it influences the functions of marine ecosystems. The goal is to describe how external pressures, including fisheries and climate change, impact biodiversity and ecosystem function. The research is expected to bridge from fundamental research towards improvement of the scientific advice regarding the impact of stressors on marine ecosystem dynamics.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading research on community-level marine biodiversity, from plankton to mammals, with a central focus on fish. This includes developing and implementing research strategies, mentoring junior researchers, and collaborating with other researchers and stakeholders. The professor will also be responsible for teaching at university level, including supervision of PhD students and postdocs, and contributing to the development of our curriculum. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to attract external research funding, coordinate national and international initiatives, and engage in science communication and outreach activities.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a PhD degree in a relevant field, such as marine ecology, statistics, or machine learning. We require a track record of research leadership, including visionary strategic development, building up an interdisciplinary research group, and attracting external research funding. The candidate should have experience in teaching at university level, including supervision of PhD students and postdocs. Additionally, we expect the candidate to have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and to be fluent in English.

Work Environment:
DTU Aqua is a dynamic and inclusive work environment, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and teamwork. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including opportunities for professional growth and development. Our research facilities are state-of-the-art, including laboratories, computational resources, and research vessels. We also offer training programs and workshops to support your career development.
