Position Overview

The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, in partnership with the Carlsberg Foundation, is pleased to announce the availability of a Humanities PhD Fellowship. This fellowship is intended for a fundamental research initiative within the humanities and is open to all areas of study within the Faculty.

The PhD Fellowship will be linked to one of the following doctoral programs offered by the Doctoral School of Social Sciences and Humanities:

- Communication and Psychology

- Culture and Learning

- Politics and Society (historical research)

Research within the humanities at the Faculty encompasses:

- Department of Communication and Psychology

- Department of Culture and Learning

- Department of Politics and Society (historical research)

The PhD candidate will be affiliated with the relevant research group located at the Aalborg campus.

Eligibility Criteria

PhD fellowships are typically awarded for a duration of three years. Candidates must possess a Master’s degree, ideally from a Danish institution, in a humanities-related field or anticipate obtaining such a degree prior to the start of the fellowship (documentation from thesis supervisor, verified transcripts, thesis contract, and proof of examination date must be provided). In accordance with the PhD Order, the PhD program requires participation in active research environments, including potential placements at other research institutions, primarily international ones, and private research organizations.

General Information

It is essential for the fellowship allocation that the candidate is enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, in line with the regulations outlined in Ministerial Order No. 1039.

  • Sample of written work, such as a Master’s thesis (optional)
  • Candidates intending to complete a doctoral thesis in English and who do not have English as their first language, or who have not completed an English-based Master’s program, must provide evidence of passing one of the following official language tests with the required minimum scores: IELTS (band score): 7, TOEFL (paper-based): 600, TOEFL (internet-based): 100. The language test must be current, not older than five years at the time of application.

Shortlisting will be conducted, and all applicants will be notified regarding their assessment status.
