Postdoctoral Researcher in Remote Sensing

Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark Københavns Universitet (KU) Full time
Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team at the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management. The successful candidate will work on a two-year project focusing on quantifying emissions of biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) in Arctic tundra using remote sensing techniques.

The project involves developing and applying new remote sensing methods using unmanned aerial systems (UAS), satellite data, and fieldwork to develop proxies for BVOC emissions. The researcher will be responsible for a project work package studying both method development and applied work in image/point cloud classification of plant species/diversity, and assessments of photosynthesis and BVOC emissions using hyperspectral imaging.

We prioritize both the candidate's own research interests and the project aims, leaving room for personal ambitions within the frames of our research goals. The project includes fieldwork, e.g., in Sub-Arctic Sweden and Greenland. Applicants should hold a PhD-degree in computer science, computer vision, geosciences, or similar topics, or be defending their PhD-degree.

The postdoc's duties will include research within geosciences and/or computer vision, as well as other duties as agreed upon with the project PI.

Requirements
  • PhD degree in computer science, computer vision, geosciences, or similar topics
  • Experience with operating UAS is not necessary but prior experience with computer scripting and excellent communication skills in written and spoken English are required
  • Familiarity with remote sensing techniques, including hyperspectral imaging, and programming languages such as Python or R
