Protection Project Director

Folkekirkens Nødhjælp invites applications for a Protection Project Director to lead its humanitarian program in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This is a non-family position based in Kirumba and Kitshanga.

The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing the organization's protection and multi-sector response activities, managing day-to-day operations, and ensuring all projects meet quality standards, are completed on time, within budget, and scope. They will represent Folkekirkens Nødhjælp in dealings with local authorities and humanitarian partners, and manage a project team.

Main duties include:

  • Defining program scope, objectives, timelines, and milestones in collaboration with stakeholders
  • Adapting programs to the operational context and developing tools and implementation approaches under the supervision of the Programs department
  • Planning activity implementation and overseeing project performance as defined in the project proposal and according to the distribution of roles, in liaison with support services
  • Ensuring administrative follow-up and monitoring of project activities
  • Coordinating protection and shelter activities, ensuring highest protection mainstreaming standards throughout project implementation
  • Establishing contacts and operational links with local authorities and humanitarian actors involved in project implementation, under the supervision of the Area Manager
  • In coordination with MEAL teams, ensuring accountability systems are adapted to the project context
  • Contributing to needs assessments to inform program design and strategic direction

Technical Management:

  • Ensuring protection project implementation according to the overall protection strategy, harmonized approaches, SOPs, and technical guides on general protection and GBV, considering remote modalities
  • Guiding protection team leaders to ensure quality in protection deliverables, according to technical guides and SOPs
  • Providing capacity building to Folkekirkens Nødhjælp staff and partners, in collaboration with the technical line manager

Internal Coordination and Team Management:

  • Steering administrative, logistical, and financial management of the project, ensuring good collaboration with support departments
  • Ensuring good management with the team, related to adhering to Folkekirkens Nødhjælp policies, clear communication, and ensuring clear roles and responsibilities within the team
  • Actively participating in team members' professional and personal development through individual exchanges, positive feedback, coaching, systematic appraisals, and revisions
  • Mitigating and resolving conflicts within the team

External Coordination:

  • Representing Folkekirkens Nødhjælp in dealings with authorities, partner organizations, and local project implementation stakeholders, and local clusters, under the supervision of the Area Manager
  • Following up on the implementation of collaboration protocols with relevant authorities, as per national and local requirements

Required Profile:

  • University degree or Advanced University degree (Master's degree) in a relevant field (e.g., political science, human rights, humanitarian project management, social work, international law, international development, etc.)

Experience and Technical Competencies:

  • 3-5 years of practical experience in the Protection field working for an INGO
  • Experience in Protection Monitoring, Case Management, Community-Based Protection, and/or GBV
  • 2 years of practical experience in humanitarian multi-sectoral activity management, including distributions
  • Proven working experience in conflict and displacement affected areas
  • 3 years' experience with people management and project management
  • Excellent writing and editing skills for external audiences
  • Experience in producing high-quality technical material (training material, program tools, proposals, strategic documents, etc.)
  • Experience working with Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Experience working with national partners, local/government authorities, and UN agencies

  • Full professional proficiency in English
