Postdoctoral Researcher in Biomaterial Degradation

Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark Københavns Universitet Full time
Job Description

The Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management invites applicants for a postdoctoral fellowship in oxygen-dependent enzymes and their role in biomass conversion. The position is part of the Novo Nordisk Foundation funded project OxyMiST, a joint international research effort to investigate oxygen constraints on microbial secretomes during plant cell wall turnover.

We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to investigate oxygen dynamics in enzymatic degradation of wood and wheat straw. The researcher will explore whether reactive oxygen species act as limiting factors or stress factors in biomaterial degradation. Improved understanding of these processes can enable new or improved methods for utilizing forest or agricultural products in a green bioeconomy.

The position is collaborative and part of the international research consortium OxyMiST, which aims to understand oxygen as a factor in biomass degradation. Key responsibilities include conducting research on enzymatic degradation of biomaterials, analyzing the role of reactive oxygen species, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., biochemistry, biology, environmental science)
  • Experience with enzymatic processes and biomaterial degradation
  • Experience with oxygen-controlled equipment (e.g., bioreactors, glovebox, gas-tight systems)
Benefits

The research will be carried out in well-equipped laboratories at the University of Copenhagen. The successful applicant will join a vibrant international research environment and have opportunities for collaboration and professional development.
