Senior Biomedical Machine Learning Researcher in Sleep Scoring for Wearable EEG

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Biomedical Machine Learning Researcher to join our team at Aarhus Universitet (AU). The successful candidate will be responsible for working on a 1-year postdoctoral position in the field of machine learning and biomedical engineering, focusing on unsupervised learning for sleep scoring using wearable EEG data.
The project aims to update how sleep is monitored clinically, which is a time series classification problem with significant societal value. The researcher will work closely with Associate Professor Kaare Mikkelsen and contribute to developing semi- or unsupervised approaches to this problem.
The main tasks in this position include familiarizing yourself with existing work on this problem, collaborating with Professor Mikkelsen to draw up a prioritized list of potential improvements, implementing these improvements, characterizing their performance, and preparing a manuscript about the method for publication in a suitable journal.
Responsibilities- Familiarize yourself with existing work on the problem of unsupervised learning for sleep scoring
- Collaborate with Associate Professor Kaare Mikkelsen to develop a prioritized list of potential improvements
- Implement these improvements
- Characterize the performance of the new version of the method
- Prepare a manuscript about the method for publication in a suitable journal
To be considered for this position, you should have a PhD degree in a technical field such as engineering, physics, computer science, or similar. Experience with machine learning and Python is essential, while familiarity with the PyTorch framework or neural networks in general is highly desirable.
You should also have good communication skills in English and be able to work independently. Previous experience with sleep research, biomedical data, transfer learning, or supervised/unsupervised learning is beneficial but not required.
