The University of Copenhagen's Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management invites applicants for a postdoctoral position to conduct research on urban expansion and associated natural area conversion. The project focuses on identifying sustainable trajectories of urban growth, preserving ecologically sensitive areas, and promoting resilience to climate change.

Research Objectives

  • To estimate the scale and magnitude of natural areas lost in urban expansion.
  • To understand the motivations and logics of diverse actors involved in land-use conversions within ecologically sensitive areas.
  • To develop a comprehensive understanding of how urban governance arrangements shape encroachment dynamics.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Develop and conduct independent research within the project frame.
  • Analyze spatial data and conduct fieldwork among local actors and policymakers.
  • Contribute to discussions on policies and planning for ecologically sensitive areas.
  • Publish scientific articles in internationally recognized journals.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in geoinformatics, geography, or related fields.
  • Strong methodological skills in GIS and remote sensing.
  • Experience with integration of spatial and qualitative methodologies.
  • High proficiency in spoken and written English.

Scientific Environment

You will be employed in an international work environment at the University of Copenhagen, collaborating with faculty, postdocs, and PhD students within geography and geoinformatics.

Terms of Employment

The postdoctoral position is a full-time position with a fixed term limited to 24 months.
