Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark Københavns Universitet (KU) Full time
Job Title: Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Saxo Institute

The Saxo Institute, part of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Copenhagen, invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in history. This is a fixed-term position for 24 months, starting on 1 January 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job Content

The postdoctoral fellow will be part of the research project "Radical Pietism in Northern Europe: Social Protest on the Verge of Modernity," funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark and headed by Associate Professor Juliane Engelhardt. The project aims to explore alternative ways of achieving influence in the public sphere among people who possessed neither formal power nor strong bookish training.

The postdoctoral fellow will analyze radical Pietist practices in their context, focusing on how they translated their conversion into distinct vestimentary, corporal, and emotional styles. Applicants from all relevant fields of research, such as cultural history, sociology, history of ideas, art history, and religious history, are encouraged to apply.

Qualification Requirements

Appointment as a postdoc presumes research qualifications on at least PhD level. The degree should be obtained no earlier than 22 September 2018. Applicants must possess skills in written and spoken academic English at a high level and the ability to read German.

Application Procedure

All applications must be submitted online, in PDF or Word format, via the link "Apply for the position" at the bottom of the page. Applications may be written in English and must include the following attachments:

  • Project description and a personal statement (two-three pages)
  • CV (max. two pages)
  • Documentation of qualifications (exam certificates, PhD diploma, and PhD assessment, if any)
  • Complete publication list (attached publications must be marked with an asterisk)
  • Research plan that includes a brief description of previous research, current research areas, and experience with research organization, research collaborations, international relations, and external/intersectoral collaborations (max. three pages)
  • Documentation of teaching competencies/teaching portfolio and other work on the dissemination of research

Applicants can attach a maximum of three publications. The publication dates must be clearly marked on the list.

Assessment Criteria

Applicants will primarily be assessed in relation to their research qualifications, including their publications, ability to conduct independent research, and participate in research collaborations. In addition, the applicant's research plan and research potential will be assessed in relation to the overall project described above.

Teaching qualifications are not a requirement, but if the postdoc wishes to teach, then documented teaching experience can be included in the overall assessment.

Remuneration and Terms of Employment

The appointment is for a fixed term of 24 months and will be made in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). In addition, a total pension contribution of 17.1% of salary and pensionable supplements will be allocated.
