Academic Position in Medieval History at the University of Copenhagen
10 hours ago
The Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a postdoctoral position in European monastic history. This two-year position is fully funded by the research project When Danes Prayed in German, financed by the Danish Research Council.
This interdisciplinary research project examines the combined use of the Danish and Low German languages in devotional manuscripts produced and/or used in Denmark. As part of this project, you will collaborate with the Principal Investigator on Work Package 2, Movement of Text and Artefact. Your independent research activities will focus on examining the historical context and environment in which devotional texts and manuscripts transferred from Northern Germany to Denmark.
Your research may include network analysis, social history, church and monastic history, history of religious devotion among women, or veneration of saints. To be considered for this position, applicants must have research qualifications at least corresponding to what can be achieved as part of a successfully completed PhD within a relevant field, such as medieval or church history. Prior knowledge of medieval Danish and Low German is not required, but experience investigating primary source materials is necessary.
As a postdoc at the University of Copenhagen, you will work in a dynamic and international academic environment. You will contribute to the overall aim of the project and enhance your skills and expertise in an exciting field of study. In addition, you will have the opportunity to engage with colleagues from various disciplines and participate in seminars and workshops.
In order to be eligible for this position, you must have a strong background in medieval history, a solid understanding of research methods and tools, and excellent communication skills. You are expected to produce high-quality research output, including peer-reviewed articles and presentations at conferences. The successful candidate will also be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses and supervising students, if applicable.
This position is open to candidates who are willing to relocate to Copenhagen, Denmark. Depending on your qualifications and experience, your salary will range from approximately €4,220 to €6,100 per month, plus benefits. For more information about the terms and conditions of employment, please refer to the job structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2013.
