The Cosmic Dawn Center (DAWN) invites applications for a DAWN Fellowship at the postdoctoral or assistant professor level.

DAWN Fellowships are intended for outstanding scientists whose research contributes to DAWN's research themes focused on the early Universe, including high-redshift galaxy evolution, reionization, and the evolution of the Intergalactic Medium. DAWN Fellows are expected to pursue their own independent, cutting-edge research programs.

As a DAWN Fellow, you will be part of a vibrant research community at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, and the Space division of the Danish Technical University. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with DAWN's international associates and participate in major existing and upcoming surveys, such as those with Hubble Space Telescope, ALMA, Euclid, and JWST.

The position is offered as either a Postdoc fellowship or Assistant Professorship, depending on the qualification of the applicant. We encourage applicants to apply for both levels if they meet the requirements.

Your Profile

We are searching for a highly motivated candidate with a strong background and interest in JWST and/or ALMA observations or in the large-scale distribution of distant galaxies.

Responsibilities

The postdoc's duties will include research within DAWN's research themes as well as teaching. The post may also include other duties.

The assistant professor's duties will primarily include research, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication and research-based teaching with associated examination obligations. To a limited extent, this may also include other duties.

Assessment

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, internationally competitive research. The ability to attract external funding will be considered together with outreach qualifications. Teaching qualifications are not mandatory but documented teaching qualifications and teaching experience will be considered.

Terms of Employment and Benefits

The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff. Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

DAWN Fellows and postdocs receive generous support for computing, travel, and publication expenses. Most non-Danish researchers are eligible for a favorable tax scheme. Copenhagen is a beautiful, family-friendly city with a large international community, a lively and diverse cultural scene, and a very high quality of life.

We offer an attractive starting salary plus pension and negotiation for a salary supplement is possible. Benefits include six weeks paid vacation and generous benefits, including pension, full health cover (also for family), paid sick leave, and paid parental leave.
