Kongens Lyngby, Lyngby-Tårbæk Kommune, Denmark DTU - Technical University of Denmark Full time

The Section of Bioinformatics at DTU Health Tech is renowned for its pioneering work in Immunoinformatics and Machine-Learning. We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated PhD researcher to contribute to the field of T Cell Immunoinformatics.

Understanding the dynamic behavior of the immune cell repertoire is crucial in determining health and disease outcomes. The interaction between T cell receptors (TCRs) and pathogen proteins plays a key role in this process. While significant efforts have been made to develop prediction models, the accuracy remains limited due to challenges such as TCR diversity, data quality, and the lack of tailored Deep Learning tools.

This PhD position is part of the Deep Immune Receptor Modeling (DIRM) grant from the NNF Data Science Collaborative Research Programme. The primary objective is to develop refined Deep Learning methods specifically designed for immune-receptors (IRs), capable of integrating prior sequence to function domain knowledge. Active learning will be employed to iteratively refine the models by identifying highly informative data for experimental characterization.

The project will take place in an inspiring environment within the IML research group led by Professor Morten Nielsen at the Section of Bioinformatics at DTU Health Tech. To qualify for this opportunity, you must have a two-year master's degree or a similar degree with academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.

Responsibilities and Qualifications
  • Strong background in machine learning/deep learning and immunoinformatics is essential.
  • Knowledge of basic cellular immune system concepts is beneficial.
  • Ability to take personal responsibility for your work and results is required.
  • Flexibility and a positive attitude towards changes are necessary.
  • Motivation by individual and team accomplishments is essential.
  • Excellent communication skills in written and verbal English are required.

The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. For information about our enrolment requirements and the general planning of the PhD study programme, please see DTU's rules for the PhD education.
