Lead Cloud Migration Architect (Contract Role)

Location:
Onsite 3 days per week (Greater Copenhagen area)

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on
Lead Cloud Migration Architect
to drive a major
cloud migration and modernization initiative
, transitioning workloads from
Azure and on-premises environments to AWS
, leveraging an established AWS landing zone.

The successful candidate will play a key role within the cloud transformation program, working closely with cross-functional teams and contributing to the organization's broader architecture community. This position requires a strong blend of technical depth, architectural leadership, and collaborative delivery across multiple teams and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the
    end-to-end solution architecture
    for cloud migrations, ensuring quality, integrity, and fitness for purpose across multiple releases and teams.
  • Shape and maintain the
    architectural runway
    , translating business needs into scalable, secure, and cost-efficient designs.
  • Support and align with existing
    enterprise design principles and patterns
    .
  • Translate enterprise and security policies into
    reference architectures
    ,
    Terraform/CloudFormation templates
    , and
    CI/CD-integrated operational models
    .
  • Define and maintain
    golden paths and reference implementations
    for common migration archetypes (rehost, re-platform, refactor) and post-migration operations.
  • Establish and enforce
    non-functional requirements
    (reliability, performance, security, cost) and integrate
    SRE practices
    such as logging, observability, and incident response.
  • Ensure compliance with
    organizational and regulatory standards
    through policy-as-code, least-privilege IAM, and auditable controls.
  • Collaborate with
    Enterprise Architects, Product Managers, RTEs, and System Teams
    to coordinate architectural decisions and delivery.
  • Participate actively in
    SAFe/Agile ceremonies
    (PI planning, system demos, Inspect & Adapt sessions).
  • Partner closely with
    AWS engineering and migration teams
    to ensure alignment across platforms and delivery streams.
  • Lead and contribute to the design of
    target-state architectures
    for high-impact applications.

Requirements

  • Experience:
    8+ years in
    cloud architecture and engineering
    , with strong
    hands-on AWS expertise
    and working knowledge of
    Azure
    . Proven track record in delivering
    large-scale cloud migration programs
    (Azure-to-AWS and on-prem-to-AWS).
  • Architecture leadership:
    Skilled in defining and governing
    solution architectures
    , maintaining an
    architectural runway
    , and coordinating complex enterprise initiatives.
  • Platform engineering:
    Deep knowledge of
    Terraform/CloudFormation
    ,
    CI/CD
    ,
    containers (EKS/ECS)
    ,
    serverless (Lambda)
    ,
    networking
    ,
    IAM
    ,
    security engineering
    , and
    observability/SRE
    tools.
  • Compliance & Standards:
    Demonstrated ability to implement
    policy-as-code
    ,
    data protection
    ,
    least privilege
    , and
    audit controls
    in alignment with enterprise and regulatory standards.
  • FinOps:
    Proficiency in
    cost optimization
    and
    cost-aware design
    , with experience guiding teams in efficient cloud resource management.
  • Agile experience:
    Familiar with
    SAFe/Agile frameworks
    and collaboration within large cross-functional programs.
  • Soft skills:
    Hands-on and outcome-focused leader with strong problem-solving ability, capable of simplifying complex challenges and maintaining high standards for quality, reliability, and security.
