Requisition ID : 502537

Job Description

Are you fascinated by the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of food quality, perception, functionality, and structure? Would you love to dive into the physics and material science determining interactions to broaden your knowledge in food science and ingredient technology?

In Physical Food Science, we apply physics and physical chemistry to enhance IFF’s insights into the impact of our ingredients in various applications. Our team deepens the functional know-how to enable our customers to use our ingredients, assisting product R&D in expanding the potential of new and existing products. We use cutting-edge analytical equipment, scientific rigor, and advanced data handling collectively to achieve our goal of world-class ingredient knowledge.

We are looking for two new colleagues who know and can use cutting-edge analytical tools, uphold scientific integrity, and utilize sophisticated data management to characterize key attributes like structure, interaction, stability, visual appeal, and storage stability. These are crucial for products across the food, health, bioscience, and personal/home care sectors. By grasping the underlying physics and chemistry, we can target these attributes.

You can help us with:

• In short: Putting numbers to foods

• Generate understanding by probing, expanding, and exploring IFF Ingredients’ functional properties and interactions via physico-chemical analyses in model and food-based systems

• Develop and maintain analysis methods, extract, compile, and verify data from different analyses

• Take responsibility for analytical equipment including installing new equipment and techniques.

• Participate in internal and external project work

• Participate in routine tasks in the department

• Communicate and explain work to internal and external customers

Job Requirements

Your qualifications:

• Scientific background – preferably PhD or similar experience

Two job openings:

One that focus on material characterization via techniques such as X-ray diffraction, DSC, Sorption analysis, interfacial tensiometer, surface and interfacial rheology, microscopy such as Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope, Raman imaging techniques, 3D X-ray microscopy and hyperspectral methods in combination with food structures One that has experience in automating image analysis and machine learning – primarily for small datasets. Solid background with python and relevant packages. Will work with a wide range of image types. Here material characterization techniques are also relevant and the basis for the datasets.

• Good communication skills with ability to communicate your science clearly and concisely across different levels to enhance understanding

• Relevant experience with R&D of foods or ingredients or other relevant areas

• Experience with data management, DoE, analytical methodologies, and coding.

• Independent worker with strong collaborative skills
