København, Denmark DMI - Danmarks Meteorologiske Institut Full time

We now have an opening for a maternity cover for the position as Pre-award Grants Advisor at the Danish National Centre for Climate Research (NCKF). To facilitate and increase the number of successful research projects at DMI, we are looking for an advisor that can support researchers in drafting successful research proposals. You will be responsible for the pre-award research proposal phase and for monitoring and identifying suitable funding opportunities EU-wide. In addition, you will initiate and drive efficient proposal preparation as well as drafting substantial parts of the proposals in support of the research coordination and the scientists at DMI.

The research projects are typically funded under e.g. Horizon Europe, Copernicus, ESA and EUMETSAT. The position is anchored in NCKF which is a department with a strong profile in both global and regional climate modelling as well as remote sensing, but you will work with all departments across DMI. The range of tasks in the area of research funding includes all steps from project acquisition, advising on the preparation of proposals, but also advising on administrative and financial aspects. You will be managing several tasks centred around the identification of opportunities and the preparation of proposals for major grants, particularly in Horizon Europe, ESA, Digital Europe and Copernicus.

As our new colleague, you will work closely with a diverse group of both researchers and DMI’s administrative, financial and legal staff, as well as the NCKF management. A part of the work will be carried out in close collaboration with researchers at other European research institutions.

Main working tasks

  1. Coordinate DMIs research projects and consortia in the proposal phase
  2. Screening of research calls and identification of relevant calls for DMIs area of interest.
  3. Advice researchers about the possibilities in EU research programs and other relevant programs
  4. Contribute to writing part of research proposals, and provide feedback to ongoing applications
  5. Provide support on administrative and financial tasks of proposals (including project budgets)
  6. Initiate cooperation and networking with international research institutions
  7. Coordinate DMIs input to national and international research programmes
  8. Organize internal workshops on funding opportunities and proposal preparation.

Expected qualifications

  1. Msc. or PhD from a university or equivalent.
  2. Experience with European science landscape and/or in working with European funding agencies.
  3. Experience in preparing EU project proposals.
  4. Experience in supporting scientists in the acquisition of new EU projects, including collaborative approaches.
  5. Operational experience or knowledge of finance and accounting in the public sector, and of dealing with third-party funding or grants.
  6. You have a hands-on, agile mindset with good communication and teamwork skills.
  7. You have strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders and actors on parallel tasks, in a committed, constructive and goal-oriented manner.
  8. Excellent English both written and spoken.

Across the department, the research builds on both global and regional modelling as well as observations from remote sensing, in-situ measurements and field work. NCKF employs approximately 90 staff members, the majority is climate researchers including PhD students, junior and senior scientists.
