Global Engineering Director
Are you an experienced manager within global engineering operations with a background from machinery and equipment manufacturing? And do you have what it takes to elevate a global company's product and manufacturing to the next level? Then you might be the person we are looking for to join Struers – the world's leading provider of solutions for materialographic preparation and analysis of solid materials.
Struers was founded in 1875 in Denmark and today employs approx. 650 people across offices in Europe, the Americas, and Asia. The company aims to be the leading provider of innovative materialographic solutions, products, and services, with customer satisfaction second to none. It is Struers' ambition to continue developing ground-breaking technologies and solutions that contribute to improving lives and making the world a better place.
Their products and services are trusted by businesses across the aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, and electronics industries, as well as by leading research institutions, for all their material properties analysis requirements within R&D, quality control, and failure analysis.
The position
As Global Engineering Director, you are responsible for ensuring that Struers' product portfolio is produced and delivered safely, in compliance with applicable standards, with high quality, and at competitive costs. You will work from our headquarters in Ballerup, with responsibility for Product & Manufacturing Engineering, connected to our production units in Denmark and the Czech Republic.
Additionally, you will be part of the global operations leadership team, which encompasses quality, production, service, supply chain, and sourcing.
You will be responsibility for an organization consisting of 30 people in Denmark and the Czech Republic. Your key responsibilities are related to leadership and project management within the following areas:
- Global Engineering Operations
- Minimizing Production Downtime
- Optimization of Global Engineering Processes and Systems
- Product Quality
- Production Support and Process Optimization
- Product Maintenance and Compliance
Qualifications & Mindset
To succeed in this position, we would emphasize that you should hold a relevant master's degree and possess a background in production or mechanical engineering, complemented by leadership training. You have several years of experience in organizations that work with high-tech machinery and its development – such as the equipment industry.
Ideally, you have experience in product maintenance and from a production engineering department (PTA) in a machinery or equipment manufacturing company with a full value chain, where safety, quality, delivery performance, and cost optimization are key focus areas.
Furthermore, you should ideally possess the following qualifications:
- Experienced in leading highly trained specialists and managing through other leaders – also experienced in remote leadership
- Accustomed to working with quality and cost management
- Preferably experienced and certified in LEAN/LEAN Six Sigma
- Experienced in both working with and developing KPIs that create value (Visual Management)
- Experienced in developing and implementing strategic plans, ideally within this field
- Fluent in Danish and English – both spoken and written
- IT is a natural work tool for you – and you are familiar with PLM, ECO and/or NCR systems and an experienced user of MO 365
In addition, your personality will be a key factor for success. You are characterized by having a tactical and operational mindset rather than a strategic one, and you possess a strong personal drive, are self-motivated, proactive, and results-oriented.
You are outgoing, have a significant personal impact, and can communicate effectively at both strategic and operational levels. You are proactive, attentive, trustworthy, and excel at collaboration. Additionally, you involve others in your leadership style, are resilient and command respect, while being a team player with the ability to build strong relationships.
Furthermore, you are self-assured, excel at delegation, and create space for your team members to grow. You are adept at embracing all types of people and thrive in such environments, demonstrating great patience and inclusiveness towards others.
Finally, it is important that you can act as a role model for Struers' values of mutual respect, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
Why join Struers?
As Struers' new Global Engineering Director, you can look forward to the following:
- A position in a global market-leading company with high-end products aimed at a wide range of customers in both industry and research institutions
- Working closely with the rest of the Operations Group to deploy strategy and to create results
- Becoming part of a team of highly skilled and dedicated specialists
- Having the opportunity to work with high complexity across functions in a global company
- An informal and flat structure, and a culture where they help each other across functions
- A lot of professional challenges and, at the same time, room for fun with your colleagues
