Postdoctoral Researcher in Journalistic Fact Checking

The University of Copenhagen is seeking a highly qualified postdoctoral researcher to join the Carlsberg-funded project "Tell Me the Truth: Fact Checkers in an Age of Epistemic Instability". The successful candidate will contribute to the project's investigation of facts and truths in public debate, focusing on the practice and role of journalistic fact checkers.
About the ProjectThe TMT project is a comprehensive research initiative that explores the establishment of facts as a fundamentally rhetorical practice. It highlights the challenges faced by traditional authorities and institutions in the age of social media, algorithms, and generative AI. The project emphasizes the importance of fact checkers in the hybrid media system, not as objective truth-tellers, but as an integrated part of the argumentative process over truth.
Responsibilities- Conduct independent research and participate in research collaborations
- Develop a subproject within the framework of the overall project, including a timeline illustrating the feasibility of the subproject
- Collaborate with the project leader and other members of the TMT project group
- PhD in rhetoric, media studies, or journalism studies
- Experience in theories relevant to the project, such as public controversies, mediated political debate, knowledge claims, and knowledge production
- Experience in methods for collecting and analyzing material relevant to the subproject
