Job Description

The successful candidate will be working on the ERC Advanced project NEXUS, focusing on the development of innovative freestanding membranes made from complex oxides. These membranes provide a unique approach to designing the next generation of complex oxide devices by utilizing stacking and twisting techniques.

The primary goal is to develop methods for fabricating, releasing, and twisting complex oxide membranes with the overall aim of investigating these twisted materials using advanced High-Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM) techniques. Strong collaboration with the Electron Microscopy Center at the University of Antwerp (EMAT) and the Electron Microscopy Center at DTU is expected.

This project involves four main tasks:

  • Developing Methods: Control the twist angle of artificial freestanding oxide membranes where the interface can be tuned by selecting the membrane's material and orientation.
  • Engineering Interfaces: Adjust the twist angle to engineer the interfaces.
  • Exploring Properties: Strategically explore and understand the emergent properties of these artificial interfaces and determine the physical and chemical origins of interfacial reconstruction.
  • Analyzing Results: Analyze and interpret the results obtained from the advanced HRTEM approach.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering or similar.
  • Strong experience in thin film deposition technologies, especially PLD.
  • Background in applied physics/materials science.
  • Experience in structural characterizations (XRD, RSM, RHEED, and TEM).
  • Experience in programming or writing analysis software is advantageous.
  • Previous experience in nano/micrometer-size device fabrication techniques, especially e-beam lithography is advantageous but not a requirement.
  • Previous experience in fabricating oxide membranes is an advantage.
  • Previous experience in characterization of electrical conductivity and/or magnetic properties.
  • Ability to work independently, plan and carry out complicated tasks, and be part of a large dynamic group.
  • Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
