Postdoctoral Researcher in History of Philosophy

We are seeking a highly qualified postdoctoral researcher to join our team at the Department of Communication, Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen. The successful candidate will contribute to the ERC-funded project "Women in the Nordic Enlightenment (WHENCE)" and work on a postdoctoral position in History of Philosophy.

Project Overview

The WHENCE project aims to uncover the intellectual contributions of women in the Nordic Enlightenment and to critically assess their impact on Scandinavian gender equality. The project involves examining a text corpus consisting of unpublished material and published texts written by over a hundred women in Scandinavia.

Responsibilities

The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for investigating writings reflecting on women's intellectual capacities and defending women's intellectual equality. They will also explore the development of various arguments, the philosophical traditions on which these arguments rely, and the argumentative strategies women used to counter traditional views about women's intellectual deficiency.

Requirements

To be eligible for this position, applicants must have a PhD in philosophy or a relevant related subject, such as history, literature, or history of ideas. They must also have expertise in the history of philosophy and literature or history, as well as high proficiency in English and one of the Scandinavian languages.
