Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark Københavns Universitet Full time
Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic researcher to join our team as a Senior Research Scientist in Neuroscience. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting cutting-edge research in the field of synaptic function at the Department of Neuroscience.

About the Role

The position is a fixed-term appointment for a period of two years, starting on December 1st, 2024. The researcher will work closely with our international team to investigate the mechanism of neurotransmitter release in chemical synapses, and the molecular basis for neurodevelopmental diseases and epilepsy.

The project involves studying cellular models of neurodevelopmental delay and epilepsy using live cell imaging of neuronal activity. The purpose is to detect consequences of disease mutation on the circuit level using imaging methods, which will be amenable to drug discovery.

Key Responsibilities
  • To conduct original research in the field of neuroscience, focusing on the study of cellular models of neurodevelopmental delay and epilepsy.
  • To develop and implement advanced live cell microscopy techniques to study neuronal activity.
  • To analyze data and identify imaging parameters that are changed by mutation.
  • To collaborate with clinicians and patient groups to understand the impact of neurodevelopmental diseases and epilepsy.
Requirements

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with a high potential for original research. Essential experience and skills include:

  • A PhD or equivalent degree in natural or medical science.
  • An excellent scientific track record.
  • Solid experience with cell culture methods.
  • Experience in fluorescence microscopy.
  • Enthusiastic, highly motivated, and a self-starter.
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams.
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken.
Salary and Benefits

The monthly salary starts at approximately €5,100 (DKK 38,500) plus pension contributions. Foreign applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark for the last 10 years.
