Regional Governance Specialist for Sustainable Coastal Management

UNOPS is seeking a highly skilled Regional Governance Specialist for Sustainable Coastal Management to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of sustainable coastal management practices in the South China Sea region.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct a desk review of existing regional cooperation mechanisms for regional seas and large marine ecosystems, and summarize findings into a list of options for regional cooperation in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand.
- Coordinate with the Coordinating Body of the Seas of East Asia (COBSEA) to identify feasible regional cooperation options for elaboration and integration within the COBSEA framework.
- National consultations on options for regional cooperation based on findings from the desk review, with the purpose of discussing and compiling national priorities and recommendations for regional cooperation.
- Draft an options paper for regional cooperation within the context of the Seas of East Asia.
- Present the draft options paper at a regional consultation.
- Finalize the options paper based on inputs and recommendations from the regional consultation.
- Develop a presentation of the options paper for regional cooperation in the Seas of East Asia, and present the options papers to the SCS-SAP Steering Committee.
- Obtain endorsement of the options paper from the SCS-SAP Steering Committee.
The Regional Governance Specialist for Sustainable Coastal Management will contribute to the achievement of project results by directly contributing to the outcome of 'Agreed arrangements for strengthened regional cooperation in the management of the marine and coastal environment of the South China Sea' for the South China Sea large marine ecosystem.
Requirements- A minimum of 5 years of successful experience in international waters and regional cooperation.
- Knowledge of, and experience with, coastal and marine issues in a regional seas context, including in the South China Sea.
- Fluency in English is required.
- Knowledge of Chinese is an asset.
