Joyful Opportunity for a Highly Competent Researcher
At DTU Chemical Engineering, a postdoctoral research position is available in the context of research projects funded by the European Innovation Council and Novo Nordisk Foundation. This role offers the chance to collaborate with top-class scientific groups in Europe and contribute to the development of a novel process chain targeting the valorization of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide to biofuels and chemicals.
Responsibilities and Tasks
The primary focus of this role will be to contribute to enhancing the department's competences within gas fermentation technology. Key responsibilities include:
- Performing kinetic characterization of various microbial groups involved in CO2 and CO fermentation to acetic acid
- Modeling CO2 and CO biological conversion to different products and reactor types, including bioelectrochemical systems
- Conducting technoeconomic assessments of conversion processes, including the separation of liquid products
- Communicating project results to both academic and industrial partners
- Collaborating across disciplines with internal and external project colleagues
- Participating in the co-supervision of BEng, BSc, MSc, and PhD students
Qualifications
In order to excel in this role, candidates should possess qualifications in several of the following areas:
- Handling and culturing of anaerobic microbial cultures
- Operating bioreactors in batch and/or continuous mode with suspended and/or attached growth (biofilm)
- Experience in gas fermentation
- Experience in modeling biological processes
- Experience in using process simulation tools such as Matlab, Aquasim, Superpro Designer, Aspen Plus, or similar
Candidates should also possess a PhD degree (or equivalent). Additionally, we value candidates who are collaboration-minded, flexible, and thrive by conveying knowledge and good practices to others. Strong writing and oral communication skills are essential, as well as fluency in English. Expertise within gas fermentation and modeling should be documented with the PhD thesis and/or relevant publications in international journals.
