Data Scientist for Food and Gut Microbial Systems

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join our team at the Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering, Aarhus Universitet. As a Data Scientist for Food and Gut Microbial Systems, you will play a crucial role in supporting ongoing research projects involving PhD students and postdocs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Data processing and analysis: You will work with omics data generated from different platforms, including genomics, metagenomics, and metatranscriptomics.
  • Data and IT infrastructure management: You will be responsible for managing, storing, and submitting various data types to relevant repositories.
  • Keeping track of tools and methods for biological data analysis: You will have the opportunity to integrate novel tools and methods for analyzing omics data.

Requirements:

  • A PhD in data science, computational biology, mathematics, bioinformatics, or a related field within the STEM disciplines.
  • An understanding of bioinformatics and experience with large datasets commonly used in an academic setting.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with HPC is considered beneficial.
  • Deep knowledge of multivariate statistics, statistical modeling, and numerical methods.
  • Basic knowledge of machine learning techniques is considered beneficial.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and shell scripting and experience with data science, graphical, and statistical libraries.

About the Position:

This is a part-time position with a start date of 1 November 2024. The workplace will be located at Gustav Wieds Vej 10D, Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering. Salary and terms as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Unions. The estimated salary for this position is approximately DKK 540,000 - 640,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
