Senior Geoinformatics Researcher for Urban Expansion and Conservation

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Geoinformatics Researcher to join our team at the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen. The successful candidate will be part of a research project focused on urban expansion and associated conversion of natural areas within African cities.
The project aims to identify and promote more sustainable trajectories of urban expansion in African cities, allowing cities to accommodate rapidly growing populations while preserving ecologically sensitive areas. The researcher will conduct spatial analyses of urban expansion trends and associated land-use/land cover conversions within natural areas using remote sensing and GIS-based methodologies.
Responsibilities- Conduct independent research within the project frame, collaborating with the PI and a PhD student.
- Develop and apply advanced geoinformatics techniques to analyze urban expansion trends and land-use changes.
- Contribute to the discussion on policies and planning for ecologically sensitive areas and facilitate the integration of digital spatial analysis and qualitative research insights.
- PhD degree in geoinformatics, geography, or related fields.
- Strong methodological skills in geoinformatics, including GIS and high-resolution remote sensing in urban contexts.
- Experience with integration of spatial and qualitative methodologies is an asset.
- A competitive salary range: 65000-80000 DKK per annum (approximately 8700-10600 USD), commensurate with qualifications and experience.
- A full-time position with a fixed term limited to a period of 24 months.
