The Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management at the University of Copenhagen invites highly motivated candidates to apply for a postdoctoral position focusing on sustainable urban expansion in African cities.
This role is part of the research project Urban Encroachment, funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark, aiming to promote more sustainable trajectories of urban expansion in African cities.
We are seeking an expert in geoinformatics with strong methodological skills in GIS and high-resolution remote sensing in urban contexts. The successful candidate will contribute to the project by analyzing spatial data and conducting fieldwork among local actors involved in land-use conversions within ecologically sensitive areas.
The ideal candidate should have a PhD degree in geoinformatics, geography or a related field, with a track record of relevant academic publications using spatial analysis methodologies. Proficiency in remote sensing and GIS-based methodologies is required.
We offer a competitive salary of $68,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience, plus benefits and opportunities for professional growth in a dynamic research environment. The position is available from January 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.
You will be employed in the Sections for Geography at the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management. The department offers an international work environment and hosts a diverse group of faculty, postdocs, and PhD students within the field of geography and geoinformatics.
For this role, we prioritize candidates with excellent communication and teamwork skills, able to work collaboratively with the PI and other researchers to achieve project goals. High proficiency in spoken and written English is also required.
