Neuroscientist Investigating Disease Mutation Consequences

Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark Københavns Universitet (KU) Full time

We seek a neuroscientist to investigate the consequences of disease mutations on the circuit level using imaging methods amenable to drug discovery. In this position, you will contribute to the study of cellular models of neurodevelopmental delay and epilepsy using live cell imaging of neuronal activity.

Our research group uses an interdisciplinary approach to study the mechanism of neurotransmitter release in chemical synapses and the molecular basis for neurodevelopmental diseases and epilepsy. You will investigate how these mutations give rise to aberrant circuit activity underlying epilepsy and neurodevelopmental delays.

Your tasks will include using live cell microscopy of in vitro neuronal populations with fluorescent reporters, performing image analysis, and identifying imaging parameters that are changed by mutation. You will also work closely with our international team and collaborate with clinicians and patient groups.

Requirements include a PhD or equivalent degree in natural or medical science, solid experience with cell culture methods, experience in fluorescence microscopy, and excellent communication skills and ability to work in teams.

We offer a dynamic and international research environment with modern laboratories within the Mærsk Tower. The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of two years. Starting date is flexible but preferably around December 1st.

The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week. Salary, pension, and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at approximately 5,100 EUR. Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated.
