The IntelliWind project is a Doctoral Network funded by the EU Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions program, and as part of this project, we are seeking a PhD student in Decision Support Systems for Automatic Anomaly Interpretation and Ranking.

This PhD project aims to design a Decision Support System that automatically detects and evaluates anomalies likely to trigger alarm events. The system will categorize the alarm trigger event, assign probable causes, rank the anomalies according to their severity, and populate an alarm mapping model with tags informing further actions.

We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic candidate who is committed to addressing climate change by advancing renewable energy systems. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in engineering or applied mathematics/computer science, with a keen interest in scientific programming, machine learning, and data science.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to evolve within academia at DTU Wind, located in Risø, near Roskilde, just 30 minutes from Copenhagen. They will benefit from advanced training in various European universities and industry, participate in scientific discussions within the rich context of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action Doctoral Networks context.

Responsibilities and Qualifications:

  • Develop a combination of anomaly detection and alarm prediction models using data science and machine learning techniques.
  • Assign probable causes to an anomaly using manufacturer specifications, metadata, and historical event data.
  • Develop a risk ranking system for detected anomalies, considering the likelihood of triggering downtime or corrective actions.

Qualifications:

  • A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.
  • Experience programming with scientific Python.
  • Experience with data science/analytics and machine learning methods.
  • Experience with wind energy topics.

Additional Criteria:

  • Not been awarded a title of PhD.
  • Not resided or carried out your main activity in Denmark for more than 12 months within the last 3 years.

Offer:

DTU Wind invites applications for a PhD position in Decision Support Systems for Automatic Anomaly Interpretation and Ranking, as part of the IntelliWind project. The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU.

DTU Wind offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and international environment, with a strong focus on research and innovation. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with leading researchers and experts in the field of wind energy and decision support systems.

Salary and Appointment Terms:

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.
