Senior Research Scientist

Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark Københavns Universitet Full time

As a senior research scientist at the Department of Neuroscience, you will play a key role in advancing our understanding of pain biology. You will leverage your expertise in in vivo imaging, single cell RNA sequencing, and molecular pharmacology to contribute to the development of new treatments for chronic pain.

Our Approach

We take a multidisciplinary approach to research, combining cutting-edge technologies with innovative methodologies to advance our understanding of the brain and nervous system. Our researchers are passionate about collaboration and are committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.

About the Project

Chronic pain can arise in response to damage to the sensory neurons and has a devastating impact on quality of life. Current treatments, such as opioids, act in the brain and spinal cord to dampen amplified pain signaling but are ineffective and have high abuse liability. We have found a new way to target chronic pain in the sensory neurons without affecting normal pain sensation.

Your Responsibilities

  • Conducting single cell mRNA sequencing studies
  • In vivo imaging of the dorsal root ganglion in anesthetized mice using multiphoton imaging
  • Generating and maintaining mouse models, implementing various animal pain models, performing behavioral experiments, phenotypical characterization of genetic mouse models with a focus on pain behavior
  • Establishing in vivo imaging of neurons

Requirements and Qualifications

  • PhD in neuroscience or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years postdoctoral research experience
  • Extensive experience in rodent pain models, particularly in conducting in vivo imaging experiments with transgenic and knockout mouse models, sequencing, and strong knowledge of pain biology

Opportunities and Benefits

  • The opportunity to work in a dynamic and international research environment
  • Access to modern laboratories and research facilities
  • A competitive salary and benefits package
  • The chance to contribute to cutting-edge research in pain biology
