Post doc position in real world assessment of listening-related stress and fatigue
7 months ago
The University seeks to appoint a postdoc to join a collaborative research project between the Department of Public Health with industrial partner Eriksholm Research Centre (Oticon A/S) and DTU Hearing Systems. The post doc will commence 1 March 2023 or soon thereafter. The position is a temporary full-time position for 2.5 years.
The position is in the Section of Environmental Health, which carries out basic research on environment and health throughout the life course, with methods ranging from experimental models to register-based epidemiology. The priority of the section is to contribute to future public health and prevention with original research and training of talented researchers. More information on the section can be found at
We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled candidate to carry out interdisciplinary and independent research focused on the epidemiology, psychology, and physiology of daily-life listening-related stress and fatigue in particularly people with hearing loss. Your work with us will have the potential to provide ground-breaking advantages in how hearing aid technology can improve the lives of individuals with hearing loss.
About the position
We are seeking a candidate to join the project ALFi: Assessment of Listening Fatigue in daily life, which aims to develop methods for measuring and predicting the additional cognitive effort that hearing aid users typically need to exert when listening in noisy environments compared to normal hearing peers. This project will employ a hybrid experimental approach so that participants are tested both in the laboratory under controlled conditions but also in longitudinal field trials spanning several weeks of daily life. You will be the main lead in designing and carrying out the field trials, which will include the development of smartphone-based questionnaires and data-logging protocols with various sensors (acoustical and physiological). In addition, you will analyze, explore, and interpret data from both laboratory experiments and fields trials. You will work closely together with researchers, audiologists, and technical experts within Eriksholm and Oticon but also alongside all project partners in academia.
You will be encouraged to publish findings in leading scientific and clinical journals and to engage with the research community at conferences and workshops.
The postdoc opportunity is funded through the William Demant Foundation. The candidate’s main working place will be at the Department of Public Health, Copenhagen University, (København K, Denmark), and at the Eriksholm Research Center (Snekkersten, Denmark).
The ideal candidate
You hold a PhD degree in public health, biostatistics, epidemiology, experimental psychology, auditory science, applied machine learning, cognitive science, physics, biomedical engineering, medicine, or a similarly relevant discipline. You have obtained your PhD within the past 5 years. You have started your research track record with a few first author publications in high-quality academic journals and conferences. You have experience supervising students to successful completion of their degrees. You experience and an interest in interdisciplinary and application-oriented work, supported by successful collaboration with researchers, technical and clinical staff outside of your main discipline. You have experience in working with behavioural and physiological measures and/or in applied machine learning for longitudinal data. You have experience presenting your work at high quality international institutions and conferences and have high proficiency in written and spoken English. Proficiency in the Danish language is not a requirement. About Eriksholm Research Centre
Eriksholm pursues audiological discoveries with the potential to significantly enhance end-user benefits in future hearing care. We work in close collaboration with academic research institutions, clinicians and end-users, and being part of Oticon ensures that our scientific insights are applied in solutions that empower people with hearing loss.
We are a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team of scientists that respect and care about each other and we work in a very informal environment. We are all dedicated to exploring the unknown and striving for excellence, and we have scientific integrity and room for taking chances.
Eriksholm has research facilities that include EEG, Ear-EEG, motion capture, eye-tracking, fNIRS, speech testing, a large anechoic chamber with speaker array, and a fully supported clinic and audiological facility. See more here:
