The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Medicine (reNEW) at University of Copenhagen is looking for a lab technician to join the Mucociliary Epithelial Mechanics group led by PI Jakub Sedzinski. The position is scheduled to commence on the 1st May 2024 or upon agreement with the chosen candidate.

Research group
Situated within The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Medicine (reNEW) at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, the Mucociliary Epithelial Mechanics research team is dedicated to unraveling the intricate mechanical and molecular intricacies underlying the development and regeneration of mucociliary epithelium (MCE) in the respiratory tract.

Our overarching objective is to gain profound insights into the dynamic processes governing MCE, with a particular focus on its role within the respiratory system. In pursuit of this goal, we aspire to pioneer groundbreaking therapeutic approaches for respiratory disorders associated with impaired MCE function, including asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD). Our methodology involves the utilization of airway organoids, quantitative imaging methods and computation to advance novel treatments in the field.

Job description
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with an educational background as a lab technician to be responsible for assistance in our research projects, with a focus on respiratory organoids, molecular biology techniques, and lab organization.

The main work tasks can be any and any number of the following:

• To prepare chemical compound stocks and aliquots based on lab recipes, and to keep aliquot inventories up to date.

• To replenish raw materials and reagents by coordinating with other lab members.

• To initiate and maintain 2D cell expansion, Air-Liquid Interface, and 3D organoid cultures.

• To perform optimization experiments in collaboration with the project lead.

• To prepare and ship samples to platforms and other labs and maintain records of patient data and disease testing on the experimental samples.

• To perform preparatory steps for experimental assays and data acquisition.

• To maintain and update digital protocols, recipes, and KnowledgeBase in collaboration with the project lead.

• To perform basic cell culture quantifications and report outcomes.

• Responsibility for the organization of the cell lab, including tracking orders, inventory, deliveries, etc.

• Performing stem cell culture maintenance.

• RNA extraction and cDNA preparation and running high throughput qRT-PCR analysis.

• Immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy of whole-mount organoid tissues.

We are looking for a meticulous and organized technician with the following qualifications :

Requirements:

An education as Laboratory Technician (laborant) Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture Willingness to learn new methods and adapt Capacity to plan and execute laboratory work independently as prioritized by the manager Experimental meticulousness and attention to detail Service-minded mentality Must be comfortable in communicating in English with team members

Positively assessed criteria:

Experience in qRT-PCR, CRISPR, Immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy

Terms of salary, work, and employment:
The successful candidate will be offered a full-time position as Lab technician (TAP).

Employment as Laboratory Technician (laborant) will be in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Organisations of Public Employees – governmental institutions (the OAO-S collective agreement) and the Professional Agreement for clerical employees, laboratory technicians and it officers in the state. The position is placed in salary group 3.
