Product Owner

Billund, Denmark LEGO Gruppe Full time

Job Description

Are you excited about the future of interactive and creative play?

Bring your experience and infectious passion to drive teams and unite designers, engineers, and business collaborators behind one vision: to create products which push the boundaries of what toys can do

With a playful spirit and history of building technology enabled products, you will lead a Product Team creating interactive, creative toys for future kids to fall in love with. This is a unique chance to join The LEGO Group to make highly innovative toys, following in the footsteps of LEGO Super Mario.

Core Responsibilities

The Product Owner will be responsible for integrating interactive Play into our portfolio of products, converting exciting opportunities into products kids will play with for years. As the advocate for kids’ and parents’ needs, you will balance their play and development to create long-lasting value for both families and our company. You will use your experience in navigating between the functional areas of product design, business, engineering, quality, supply chain, and operations to achieve outstanding commercial objectives with products that millions of kids love

Being curious about how kids play, you are extraordinary at identifying user needs, and excited to translate these needs into viable products. You know how to ensure the products your team builds are highly appealing and relevant for both kids and parents.

The work location is Billund, and relocation assistance is not offered.

In this role, you will:

  • Always be a champion of the kids - guiding the team to observe kids to create fun, surprising, and meaningful play experiences which benefit kids as they learn through play.
  • Be a natural collaborator - quickly and deeply build an understanding of the DNA of existing Product lines, their business and creative ambitions, and how interactivity can play a significant part in delivering these.
  • Hold the Interactive Vision - using the vision at every opportunity to guide the team, you know what phenomenal looks like and uphold the highest quality standards, making sophisticated trade-off decisions to bring that vision into reality.
  • Empower and stimulate your team to create quick prototypes to test and validate ideas as early as possible - preferring progress over perfection. Quickly adjusting the direction and not afraid to fail, you kill your own ideas when your experiments show that is the right course of action.
  • Integrate and trade-off – listening to a wide variety of specialist functions, you navigate between fields, helping them see the big picture and uniting them to one common cause. Where vital, you constructively deal with disagreement, turning creative tension into energy which drives Product Development forward with increased momentum.
  • Develop effectively using data and distil it to its essence, find patterns to forecast forwards and inspire development of tomorrow - not the past
  • While bringing into play a strong conceptual mind, you challenge assumptions in a proactive and constructive manner. You dare to ask questions and voice the unpopular opinion if it is for the good of the result - all while being respectful to your co-workers.

Play your part in our team succeeding

We are a diverse group who build the play experiences for the future. We work under an agile project management framework to discover new ways to play by converting unmet needs, technology trends, and LEGO values into consumer value. We have a long and proud heritage of bringing interactive toys to market and believe that there is an even deeper seam to be mined for kids who are attracted to diverse types of play.

Building on the successful collaboration with Nintendo which brought you LEGO Super Mario, we are exploring interactivity more broadly. The Product Owner will help us discover more play value.

Do you have what it takes?

As we look for the right match, professional experience designing and leading cross-functional teams is more important than specific qualifications. We imagine that the right candidate has:

  • Shipped a minimum of one digital or physical consumer product in the role of Product Owner. You have experience working in a fast-paced agile environment, creating and prioritizing user stories and EPICS being responsible for the mid-long term product roadmaps.
  • Experience as an individual contributor in several consumer products and know what life on the front-line feels like.
  • Proven trained ability to use a deep understanding of the Product Vision to drive a team, set and uphold quality standards and make the complex trade-off decisions which make that vision a reality.
  • Experience analysing and prioritising tasks based on user needs, through direct observation, product testing, collecting and analysing telemetry data and feedback.
  • Skills visualising project progress to motivate the development team and increase transparency to user groups.
  • Experience managing budgets and communicating status and risk to senior partners.
  • Decision making over outsourcing strategy, especially when to build or buy external solutions is an advantage.
