Kongens Lyngby, Lyngby-Tårbæk Kommune, Denmark DTU - Technical University of Denmark Full time

Telemedicine has become a critical component of the Danish healthcare system, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, where it played a vital role in maintaining access to healthcare services while reducing the risk of virus transmission. As Denmark continues to expand its telemedicine capabilities, ensuring that these services are optimally located to maximize accessibility, efficiency, and user satisfaction is essential.

This Postdoc project seeks to develop patient-centric standards for the location and operation of telemedicine facilities in Denmark, utilizing Operations Management (OM) methodologies to address current challenges and to improve service delivery, building on the lessons learned during the pandemic.

Responsibilities and qualifications
As a postdoc carrying out this research project, you will play a key role in developing a set of patient-centric standards for the optimal location and operation of telemedicine facilities in Denmark, focusing on patient accessibility, healthcare needs, and the existing digital infrastructure. The project intends to apply quantitative methodologies, such as location-allocation models and network optimization, to determine the optimal locations for telemedicine facilities within Denmark's healthcare system. The project is carried out in collaboration with the healthcare sector in Region Zealand. Additionally, you will support funding proposals within the research area healthcare operations management.

You will be part of the Management Science division of the DTU Management department. The division includes 13 faculty members who are experts in operations management, supply chain management, and operations research. You will work under the supervision of Prof. Jens O. Brunner.

As an applicant, you are expected to:

  • have demonstrated strong academic skills in identifying and evaluating current state-of-the-art literature within an operations management context,
  • have solid experience in developing mathematical models,
  • be proficient in efficient programming languages such as C++, Java, C#, or Julia, and/or alternatively in simulation modeling (e.g., AnyLogic),
  • have experience in publishing research outcomes in internationally recognised scientific journals.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

We will give preference to applicants who also have experience in healthcare operations management.
