Machine Learning Scientist for Weather Forecasting

We are seeking a talented Machine Learning Scientist to join our team at DMI - Danmarks Meteorologiske Institut. As a key member of our Weather Research Department, you will contribute to the development and application of innovative data-driven models for accurate and near real-time weather prediction.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement machine learning algorithms for weather forecasting, leveraging state-of-the-art techniques such as graph-based learning, Bayesian inference, and generative learning.
- Collaborate with international research partners to advance our understanding of weather prediction, contributing to the development of new data-driven models.
- Work closely with colleagues to advance our understanding of weather prediction, contributing to the development of new data-driven models.
- Develop and maintain high-quality software for data analysis and modeling, utilizing languages such as Python, Julia, and Fortran.
- Contribute to the development of new data-driven models for accurate and near real-time weather prediction, leveraging machine learning and numerical weather prediction techniques.
DMI is the national weather forecast and warning authority for Denmark and Greenland. With a rich tradition of operating and advancing models for numerical weather prediction, DMI stands at the forefront of high-resolution numerical weather forecasting.
Requirements- Master's or Ph.D. degree in applied mathematics, atmospheric sciences, applied physics, data science, or a closely related field.
- Substantial experience and a proven track record in scientific machine learning, particularly in the context of environmental sciences.
- Proficiency in scientific programming, with strong skills in software development for data analysis and modeling.
- Experience with frameworks such as PyTorch, PyTorch-Lightning, JAX, Flux.JL, Zygote.JL, and MLFlow.
- Strong data management and analysis skills, including data pre-processing and post-processing.
- Proficiency in Linux operating systems and scripting.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with international research partners.
