Postdoctoral Researcher in Geoinformatics for Urban Expansion and Land-Use Conversion

Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark Københavns Universitet (KU) Full time

The Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management at the University of Copenhagen is inviting applications for a postdoctoral position in geoinformatics, focusing on urban expansion and associated land-use conversion in African cities.

The Research Project

The postdoctoral position is part of the research project "Urban Encroachment – Untangling Drivers and Dynamics of Land-Use Transitions in Ecologically Sensitive Areas" funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark. The project aims to identify and promote more sustainable trajectories of urban expansion in African cities, allowing cities to accommodate growing populations while preserving ecologically sensitive areas.

Responsibilities and Tasks

The postdoc will conduct independent research within the project framework, collaborating with the PI and a PhD student. Key responsibilities include spatial analysis of urban expansion trends and associated land-use/land-cover conversions, drawing on remote sensing and GIS-based methodologies.

Requirements and Qualifications

Applicants should hold a PhD degree in geoinformatics, geography, or a related field, with a strong track record of relevant publications. Proficiency in remote sensing and GIS-based methodologies is required, and experience with integration of spatial and qualitative methodologies is an asset.
