Urban Frontiers Research Position: Exploring Dynamics of Social Change

We are seeking a highly qualified postdoctoral researcher to join our team at the Department of Food and Resource Economics, University of Copenhagen. The successful candidate will contribute to our research project, Urban Frontiers, which investigates how land is accessed, coded, and controlled in urban peripheries.
The project is funded by the European Research Council (ERC) and focuses on extended case studies of concrete social struggles in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The postdoc will work within the theoretical and conceptual framework of the programme, proposing a country and urban research site, and describing how the research priorities of the programme will be relevantly addressed in the project.
The successful candidate will have a PhD degree in anthropology, development studies, economics, geography, political science, sociology, or similar field. Relevant language capabilities and experience with qualitative research methods are essential qualifications.
The position is part of Section for Global Development, Faculty of SCIENCE, University of Copenhagen. We are located in Copenhagen, and our group engages in interdisciplinary research on economic, political, environmental, and institutional dynamics in developing countries.
Key Responsibilities- Conducting research within the framework of the Urban Frontiers project
- Proposing a country and urban research site, and addressing research priorities in the project
- Developing and implementing research designs and methodologies
- Collecting and analyzing data, including through significant fieldwork
- Collaborating with team members and contributing to the production of high-quality research outputs
- PhD degree in a relevant field
- Relevant language capabilities
- Experience with qualitative research methods
- Familiarity with quantitative research methods
- Strong interest in dynamics of social change
- Curious and collaborative mindset
- A competitive salary of approximately €55,000-60,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience
