PhD Research Fellow in Plant Microbial Ecology
1 week ago
We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to fill a fully funded PhD position for a period of 3 years in the field of plant-microbial ecology. The research group is led by Associate Professor Nicolai V. Meyling at the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, University of Copenhagen, Denmark.
The project aims to investigate the interactive effects of microbial-induced resistance (MIR) on trophic interactions and biocontrol efficacy. Beneficial microorganisms can colonize the rhizosphere of plants and modulate plant defense mechanisms against insect pests. The PhD student will quantify the short and longer-term effects of MIR on aphid populations feeding on sweet pepper plants inoculated with root-colonizing fungi.
The PhD fellow will be supervised by Associate Professor Nicolai V. Meyling in partnership with Dr. Paul Becher at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. The PhD fellow will spend approximately 6 months at the Alnarp campus during the 3-year period.
We are looking for a committed graduate student with experience in entomology, plant science, microbiology, chemical ecology, community ecology, DNA/RNA-based molecular techniques, or a related field. The successful PhD student will obtain competences within ecological interactions, molecular techniques, and analytical methods of chemical ecology and experimental manipulations of plants, insects, and fungi.
Responsibilities and tasks include carrying out an independent research project under supervision, completing PhD courses, participating in international research environments, teaching and knowledge dissemination activities, writing scientific papers, and defending a PhD thesis.
