Unlock the Potential of Sustainable Energy with Our Exciting PhD Research Opportunity
We are seeking a talented and motivated PhD researcher to join our team at the Department of Energy Conversion and Storage (DTU Energy) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). As a PhD researcher, you will be part of a vibrant and international research environment focused on developing functional materials, components, and systems for sustainable energy technologies.
The project you will be working on involves the development of nanoparticles for photocatalytic water splitting, a crucial process for the production of hydrogen as a clean and renewable energy carrier. Your primary tasks will include nanoparticle synthesis using a continuous flow hydrothermal process, characterization with advanced techniques such as X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, Raman, fluorescence, and infra-red spectroscopy, and the development of a qualitative test bench for parallel testing of water splitting.
You will also be responsible for developing a machine learning algorithm to optimize the synthesis process for efficient hydrogen production. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to spend about 6 months as a visiting researcher at the Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), where you will collaborate with our international partners and gain valuable experience in a global research environment.
To succeed in this role, you must have a strong background in chemistry, physics, or materials science engineering, with a two-year master's degree or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree. You should also have practical experience within at least three of the following fields: nanoparticle synthesis, characterization by means of spectroscopic techniques, water splitting, machine learning, and transmission electron microscopy.
As a PhD researcher at DTU Energy, you will have access to excellent facilities for synthesis, characterization, and modeling, as well as a stimulating and supportive research environment. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with our international partners and contribute to the development of sustainable energy solutions that can make a real impact on the world.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
- Nanoparticle synthesis by means of a continuous flow hydrothermal process
- Characterization with advanced techniques such as X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, Raman, fluorescence, and infra-red spectroscopy
- Development of a qualitative test bench for parallel testing of water splitting
- Development of a machine learning algorithm to optimize the synthesis process for efficient hydrogen production
- Collaboration with international partners and contribution to the development of sustainable energy solutions
Requirements
- Two-year master's degree or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree in chemistry, physics, or materials science engineering
- Practical experience within at least three of the following fields: nanoparticle synthesis, characterization by means of spectroscopic techniques, water splitting, machine learning, and transmission electron microscopy
- Strong background in chemistry, physics, or materials science engineering
Assessment and Further Information
Your application will be assessed by Dr. Jean-Claude Grivel and Prof. Wolff-Ragnar Kiebach. If you have further questions, please contact Assistant Professor Jean-Claude Grivel at .
We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom tempered by responsibility. The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations, and the period of employment is 3 years.
