PhD Position in Advanced Cell Therapy Development at the University of Copenhagen

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Medicine (reNEW) at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen is seeking a highly skilled PhD candidate to join the Jensen group, starting November 2024 or upon agreement. As part of an interdisciplinary team, you will be involved in the cutting-edge development of stem cell therapy for treating patients with ulcerative colitis.
Our Mission
- To bring together research excellence to harness the therapeutic potential in stem cell medicine.
- To address fundamental questions in stem cell and developmental biology.
- To translate research findings into products that help patients with incurable disorders such as congenital kidney disorders, chronic ulcerative disorders, neurological disorders, and diabetes.
Research Objectives
- To understand how adult intestinal stem cells are specified during development.
- To determine how their behavior is regulated during steady state homeostasis.
- To investigate how they dynamically change during tissue regeneration.
Key Activities
- To adapt current cell culture conditions to be GMP compatible.
- To develop standard operating procedures for culturing intestinal epithelial organoids.
- To support the transition from the laboratory to a GMP facility.
- To establish transplantation methods suitable for patients.
- To evaluate safety and efficacy of the cellular products.
- To establish quality control and release criteria measurement of the cellular product.
Qualifications
- A Master's degree in Life Sciences is required, with experience in a relevant field such as stem cell biology and regenerative medicine.
- A strong background in cellular and molecular biology is essential.
- Previous experience with culturing human intestinal organoids is strongly preferred.
- Experience with suspension cultures and tissue dissociation is advantageous.
- Fluency in English is mandatory; fluency in Danish is an advantage.
