Scientist in Intestinal Microbiome Research

Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark Københavns Universitet Full time

We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic scientist to join our international, cross-institutional and interdisciplinary project, PIG-PARADIGM. This 2-year position is part of our efforts to reduce the need for antimicrobial treatments and mitigate the spread of antimicrobial resistance.

The successful candidate will work on a project investigating the mucin-binding properties of intestinal pathogenic bacteria in pigs. The focus will be on bacterial interactions with O-glycans, elucidating the complex interactions between the intestinal microbiome and host factors, and determining their separate and combined influence on intestinal health and resilience.

About the Role

You will be part of a collaborative team working on cutting-edge research. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and conduct experiments to investigate mucin-binding properties of intestinal pathogenic bacteria in pigs.
  • Analyze data using techniques such as ELISA, flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, and glycan profiling.
  • Develop and implement molecular microbiology techniques, including cloning and expression.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve project goals.
Requirements

To be considered for this position, you should have:

  • A Ph.D. in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Glycobiology, or a related field.
  • A strong background in microbiology or glycobiology, with a focus on host-pathogen interactions.
  • Experience with techniques such as ELISA, flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, and glycan profiling.
  • Proficiency in molecular microbiology techniques, including cloning and expression.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Benefits

This position offers:

  • A competitive salary: DKK 40,615 (approximately EUR 5,415) per month, plus a supplement based on qualifications.
  • A pension plan: the employer contributes 17.1% to your pension fund.
  • The opportunity to work in a dynamic and international research environment.

Foreign applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark for the last 10 years. The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
