Senior Research Scientist in Parasite Immunology at University of Copenhagen
1 week ago
The PIGH group is a multidisciplinary team focused on understanding host-pathogen-microbiome interactions and nutritional immunology. We apply small and large animal models to explore how the gut environment shapes type-2 immunity, which is critical for protection against helminth parasites but can also cause pathologies such as allergies when dysregulated.
Our research aims to develop novel therapies to prevent infection and disease in animals and humans. The group is international in nature, with a daily working language of English.
Your JobIn this position, you will work on different projects within the group centered around exploring how dietary components influence type-2 immunity. You will carry out research involving dietary manipulations, breeding, and experimental parasite infections of mice, as well as some in vitro work with organoids and/or cell lines.
This will be coupled with extensive immunological analyses such as multiparameter flow cytometry (e.g., innate lymphoid cells, T-cells) and single-cell RNA-sequencing, as well as analyses of microbiome composition and mucosal barrier function.
As a postdoc in our group, you will also have the opportunity to (co-)supervise PhD and MSc students, support the overall research goals of the group, and contribute to a positive and supportive group environment that emphasizes teamwork, curiosity, and positivity.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct research and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.
- Develop and teach research-based courses.
- Share knowledge with society through outreach activities.
We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic scientist with a PhD in parasitology or immunology and experience in experimental animal models, including FELASA accreditation or equivalent.
You should have a demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications, preferably including first-author publications, as well as excellent communication skills and ability to work in teams.
Familiarity with transcriptomics, microbiome analyses, and sample preparation would be an asset, as would an active interest in nutrition and/or gut health.
About UsThe place of employment is at the Section for Parasitology and Aquatic Pathobiology, Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment.
Our research facilities include modern laboratories and animal facilities. The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week, and the salary is approximately €47,000 per year.
