The Ku - Statens Naturhistoriske Museum in Copenhagen is seeking a skilled Natural History Conservator to assist with the preparation of objects for new permanent galleries.

The successful candidate will join the Conservation Unit and contribute to planning and undertaking varied object treatments, packing, transport, and installation of exhibitions for the new museum project.

About Us

Ku - Statens Naturhistoriske Museum is Denmark's national museum for nature and contains over 14 million objects of preserved animals, plants, fossils, and minerals. Natural history museums play a vital role in monitoring the impact of climate change and preserving plant and animal life.

We are building a new Danish national museum for nature in Copenhagen's Botanical Garden. The museum will host state-of-the-art laboratories, outstanding research collections, new public galleries, and facilities for programming, education, and citizen science.

The primary focus of our Conservation Unit is to conserve, prepare, and install various objects for the new public galleries. Seven exhibition core groups are developing the content of the new permanent galleries, which will open at the end of 2026. We will be preparing specimens from our vast historic collections and new acquisitions for exhibitions covering geology, botany, and zoology.

Responsibilities include assisting the Head of Conservation Unit with day-to-day management, scheduling object treatments, investigating conservation methods, writing reports, supervising projects, and overseeing the packing and transport of objects.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Education as conservator or equivalent degree combined with relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of remedial conservation techniques, preventive conservation expertise, and ability to work independently.
  • Experience in large-scale collection moves and the ability to manage a varied workload efficiently.
  • Good communication and writing skills, fluency in English, and enthusiasm for science communication.

Estimated salary: approximately DKK 550,000 per year.
