Postdoctoral Researcher in Electric Vehicle Charging Systems

We are seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team at DTU Wind and Energy Systems to work on a 3-year project focused on the quantification of flexibility from home and public charging stations, and the development of methods to exploit it.

The researcher will investigate possible synergies between EV charging processes and renewable energy generation, and propose new methods to exploit them. They will also quantify the combined impact of EV charging and renewable energy on the power system, and find the optimal location to maximize their usage and minimize their grid impact.

The researcher will be affiliated with the Section on E-mobility and Prosumer Integration in the Division of Power and Energy Systems, and will collaborate with neighboring sections working on distributed energy systems, hybrid power plants, smart grids, power system flexibility, and market design and operation.

The researcher will have the opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary and international environment, and will be encouraged to contribute to the development of innovative charging technologies that can be combined with renewable energy sources.

The ideal candidate will have a MSc and a PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, with a strong background in energy systems, data analysis, and applied statistics. They will also have experience with supervision and teaching of students, and will be able to work effectively in a team.

The researcher will be expected to actively contribute to the development of the project, and will be involved in the coordination of the project's activities. They will also be expected to participate in educational activities, and to supervise PhD and master students.

The researcher will be part of a team of researchers working on the European research project AHEAD, and will have the opportunity to collaborate with internationally known researchers at DTU and other universities, as well as industrial partners.

Responsibilities and qualifications

  • Quantify the flexibility potential of different EV charging hubs, both public and private, including light- and heavy-duty vehicles
  • Investigate possible synergies between the EV charging processes and the renewable energy generation, and propose new methods to exploit them
  • Quantify the combined impact of EV charging and renewable energy on the power system, and find the optimal location to maximize their usage and minimize their grid impact
  • Investigate innovative charging technologies that can be combined with renewable energy sources

Salary and appointment terms
