Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our research team at the University of Southern Denmark. The successful candidate will work on a 3-year project focused on developing innovative solutions for just-in-time port call optimization.

Project Overview

The project aims to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in the maritime industry by developing a new communication and logistics platform for shipping. The platform will enable ships to arrive at their destination port only when port services and a berth are available, reducing unnecessary waiting times and fuel consumption.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and innovation in the field of quantitative modelling for maritime logistics optimization
  • Work closely with key stakeholders in the project, including consortium partners and industry experts
  • Publish and present academic work at international conferences and in scientific journals
  • Take part in teaching and supervision activities in the field of operations and supply chain management

Requirements

  • MSc degree in industrial engineering, computer science, software engineering, operations management, maritime or logistics studies or equivalent
  • Skilled in data-driven analytics and mathematical modelling/optimization, preferably in Anylogic, Python, R, and/or Julia
  • Comfortable with various programming languages and willingness to learn new ones
  • Very good written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge about maritime operations is an advantage

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic and international research environment, with access to state-of-the-art facilities and a competitive salary. The PhD position is a 3-year salaried position, with a monthly gross salary incl. pension of 35,707 DKK.
