PhD Study: Linking Shipping Pressure to Mixture Toxicity of Discharges

This PhD research project focuses on developing a comprehensive assessment of shipping-related pollution impacts on plankton ecosystems. The study will combine experimental evidence on ecological effects with damage modeling, aiming to quantify the cumulative impacts of multiple contaminants and their behavior in the marine environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct ecological and ecotoxicological experiments to investigate the effects of contaminant mixtures on marine plankton.
  • Investigate the fate of contaminants during shipping activities.
  • Develop a damage modeling framework to quantify the environmental effects of shipping in marine ecosystems.
  • Participate in inter-disciplinary research networks and contribute to the Centre for Absolute Sustainability.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in natural sciences (e.g., marine biology, oceanography, ecotoxicology, environmental chemistry, or environmental engineering).
  • Experience in modeling, ecotoxicology, or experimental plankton ecology.
  • Good communication skills in English, both written and orally.
  • Flexibility for research stays abroad and ability to conduct research independently.
About the Position

The PhD researcher will be part of the Section for Oceans and Arctic at DTU Aqua and affiliated with the Centre for Absolute Sustainability. The position offers a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment with opportunities for academic growth and professional development.
