Research Scientist for Thin-Film Phosphosulfide Materials
4 days ago
About the Project
The Inorganic Phosphosulfides for Optoelectronics project is a cutting-edge research initiative funded by the VILLUM Foundation. Our primary objective is to address a fundamental scientific and technological challenge: how to identify the optimal material for a specific application from an enormous pool of possibilities, including those yet to be discovered.
To tackle this complex question, we will focus on a smaller-scale case study, concentrating on one intriguing class of materials (phosphosulfides) and a critical application (solar cells). The team's task is to find the most efficient phosphosulfide compound that can convert light into electricity.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
- Conduct experimental work and develop related data infrastructure as part of a diverse team of materials scientists, chemists, and physicists working on either experiment or computation.
- Synthesize various phosphosulfide materials in thin-film form using high-throughput deposition tools.
- Measure the chemical, physical, and optoelectronic properties of phosphosulfides using state-of-the-art characterization tools.
- Expand our current data infrastructure capabilities for batch analysis, visualization, and management of high-throughput experimental data based on the open-source NOMAD database model.
- Fabricate simple solar cell prototypes using the most promising phosphosulfides and measure their efficiency and other performance indicators.
- Supervise BSc. and MSc. students in smaller projects related to your PhD work.
Requirements and Expectations
- Some experience with vacuum-based thin-film deposition.
- Some experience with characterization techniques and analysis for thin-film materials.
- Some experience with coding (preferably python).
- Ability to work both individually and as part of a team.
- Motivation to follow research tasks to completion and to summarize research outcomes in several scientific articles during your PhD.
